I’m ALREADY excited for you! Food is such a powerful signaler in the body, and typically people who use a healthy, whole foods version of keto alongside appropriate replenishing of electrolytes experience changes in their body very quickly!

Changes like reduced swelling, reduced pain and inflammation, improved energy, greater mental clarity, and body fat reduction are very common WHEN KETO IS DONE WELL.

And this is the proviso – keto needs to be done “well” to work effectively.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KETO DONE POORLY AND KETO DONE WELL FOR LIPOEDEMA AND LYMPHOEDEMA?

Keto done poorly looks like this:

  • Inappropriate amounts of protein
  • Inflammatory carbohydrates and inflammatory oils
  • Daily servings of processed meats
  • 3 meals a day PLUS snacks
  • Highly processed food items in the form of “keto” snack bars, ice cream, non-caloric sweeteners, food in boxes, etc.
  • One meal a day
  • And most crucially, not getting into ketosis

Keto done well looks like this:

  • Appropriate replenishment of electrolytes while in ketosis
  • 3 meals a day and no snacks
  • Real, unprocessed, fresh foods at each meal chosen from my ketogenic food list

You may already know that as a Clinical Nutritionist. I work almost exclusively with women who have either lipoedema and / or lymphoedema. Ketogenic diets done well work extremely well for women with either of these conditions, but they need to be sustainable and healthy. 

ALL women with lipoedema and / or lymphoedema need to eat enough food before they can lose body fat and feel energetic again. All need to use an anti-inflammatory version of keto – this is key and a strong reminder that your food choices matter!
